Have you heard of how to juice wheatgrass

how to juice wheatgrassDiscover The Lost Art Of Old Home Remedies

There has been a real surge in the interest of old home remedies and natural products to help with all kinds of ailments. This has come partly from a growing awareness of the side effects of some drug treatments. And there are others that want to return to a more natural way of living.

Here are some examples of home remedies that your grandmother may have been familiar with. These are just for historical purposes and have not been proven, so I don't recommend using any of this information to self-medicate.

Bruises - place a piece of steak on the bruise

Hiccups - drink a glass of water, or hold your breath

Sore throat - drink honey and lemon in hot water

Hayfever - eat local honey (not commercially bought) 3 times a day

It is wise to remember that there are many situations where only conventional medicine will do. These are particularly the case with emergencies such as a heart attack. In cases like this it is always best to consult the advice of a trained medical doctor or other qualified personnel.

Many people mistakenly believe that natural remedies are free from side effects. This is simply not true. Many plants can have serious side effects if eaten such as monkshood or deadly nightshade. Even plants that are safe for most people can cause a reaction in a small proportion of the population.

Many of the old home remedies have a history stretching back hundreds of years. The classic way of collecting home remedies was for people to literally use what was around them. This meant finding a use for the plants that grew in the hedgerows around about. This was a great way of collecting 'organic' remedies in a time before the introduction of pesticides. This required a great deal of skill on the part of the gatherer in determining what plants are healing and which are harmful.

Nowadays it is more likely that city dwellers will resort to herbal remedies that have been bought pre-prepared. If you are looking for a place to obtain remedies from, you can start by looking at your local health food shop or from a specialist online vendors. Many of the vitamin and dietary supplement suppliers also sell old home remedies.

If you are interested in making some remedies yourself, this is quite possible if you have access to a good herbal remedy book or access to the Internet. In fact it is easier now to create herbal remedies than ever before as it is relatively easy to get hold of all kinds of exotic herbs and spices to use as ingredients.

wheatgrass deliveryNatural Sore Throat Remedies

A sore throat is a condition which could be a symptom of many health disorders.

Generally, infections cause the majority of sore throats and are contagious. Infections are caused either by viruses such as the flu, the common cold, mononucleosis, or by bacteria such as strep, or hemophilus. While bacteria do respond to antibiotic treatments, viruses do not. Most viral sore throats accompany flu or colds along with a stuffy, runny nose, sneezing, and the accompanying aches and pains.

These viruses are highly contagious and spread quickly, especially in winter. The body builds antibodies that destroy the virus, a process that takes about a week. Sore throats accompany other viral infections such as measles, chicken pox, whooping cough, and croup. Canker sores and fever blisters in the throat also can be very painful.

What To Initially Do When A Sore Throat Gets Really Painful

When an individual has a sore throat, and persists longer than the usual five- to seven- day duration of a cold or flu, and is not associated with an avoidable allergy or irritation, the afflicted person should immediately seek medical attention.

The following signs and symptoms should alert you to see your physician, and these include: Severe and prolonged sore throat, difficulty in breathing and swallowing, difficulty opening the mouth, joint pains, earache, rashes, a fever over 101, blood in the saliva or phlegm, frequently recurring sore throat, appearance of lumps in neck and a hoarseness which lasts over two weeks

Natural Remedies for Sore Throat

Many natural ingredients and herbs are proven to reduce pain and inflammation, provide immediate or temporary relief, and help ease painful raw throat tissues.

- Herbal immune system enhancers such as echinacea and goldenseal or Oregon grape root are effective when you have a sore throat that is caused by a cold or flu. The wonder herb, garlic, can also prove helpful when battling illness, since it will ward off harmufl bacteria or viruses. Try to add raw garlic to your salad and other dishes.

- Mucilaginous herbs can ease any sore throat. Slippery elm and marshmallow do help a lot. Gargling with astringent herbs will alleviate discomfort. Raspberry or blackberry leaves along with elder flowers are good for this purpose. Mix these with marshmallow and licorice for a soothing, relaxing effect.

- Herbal Throat Lozenges. These herbal lozenges are simple, easy to make, and are effective in treating sore threats. In preparing these lozenges, mix 3 tablespoons powdered licorice, 3 tablespoons marshmallow or slippery elm, 3 tablespoons red raspberry leaves, 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper, 10 drops scented geranium, sage, or rosemary, essential oil, honey and cornstarch.

Combine the herbal powders together with just enough honey to make a thick mixture. Add essential oil and mix well with fork or fingers. Pinch off small pieces, roll into balls, and flatten slightly to form a lozenge. After forming a lozenge, dry the mixture for 12 hours and store in an airtight container.

- Cayenne pepper also is an effective herb in stopping throat pain. Add this to a gargling mixture.

There are countless remedies available for sore throat, and whichever remedy you choose, these herbal treatments can be of great help in healing sore throat, whether the throat infection is caused by a cold, voice overuse or other viral or bacterial infections.

The cinnamon plant is found in Sri Lanka and Indonesia. The bark and the leaf of the plant are used to make cinnamon oil. The aroma of cinnamon is like that of cassia or Chinese cinnamon. It is often mixed with frankincense and other oriental woods to make the oil. It can sometimes cause skin irritation and so you should be careful while using it. The essential oil for cholesterol can make you feel warm and relaxed and the concentrate from the leaf helps to invigorate you.

Cinnamon can be used to treat cholesterol levels; blood sugar and triglyceride levels bringing them down by as much as 20%, if you take 1/2 a teaspoon full each day.

Many diabetics who are not taking insulin can benefit from cinnamon. It has a carminative effect, or prevents or reduces the formation of gas in your stomach. It is also a great way to treat diarrhea and nausea.

The wisdom of the Chinese herbalist can be seen in this remedy. Give a person, who is in his 70s or 80s, suffering from an unrelenting cough, spitting white phlegm all the time, a pinch of cinnamon to chew and then swallow. He will feel great relief with this remedy.

You can also give it to somebody who suffers from indigestion or loss of appetite. It has healing powers for somebody who has intestinal colic, dyspepsia, flatulent dyspepsia and other digestive disorders. It has another amazing use, it can even be given to little babies to treat diarrhea in them.

Cinnamon, which is an excellent essential oil for cholesterol is an extremely potent anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and uterine stimulant. The reason is that it contains certain terpenoids that give it its medicinal properties.

The number of people who are suffering from diabetes in our world today is steadily rising. This can bring about a dangerous situation when the population will be badly affected by this damaging disease. Cinnamon is very easily available and accessible and many people can benefit from its medical properties, if they are educated and awareness is created around this amazing plant. Why, there is evidence that proves that the spice reduces blood sugar levels almost as much as statin drugs.

Recent studies have revealed that cinnamon is a wonderful antioxidant. This means it prevents the body's cells from falling prey to many debilitating diseases caused by the harmful free radicals.

However please don't consume cinnamon internally especially if you are suffering from a serious illness, without the permission of a qualified medical professional, it is potent and can affect the other medication you are taking as well.
